Kimonos, Owls and chaos

Yesterday we had a good turnout at the first Mini Quilt Class for 2013 at Cairns Craft Centre where everyone worked on this cute little "Kimonos" quilt.

Then it was home to begin the big sort out in the Studio where I managed to set up one area with some of my owls hanging on a tree-like structure.  This collection got a big boost from some lovely gifts I received over Christmas.

Now we come to chaos that I need to sort out - lots of paper, magazines and projects.  We moved around a lot of furniture and added some new shelves so everything ended up on the work table to be gone through and either discarded or a new home found in the studio.  Peter often wonders what the plastic box industry would do without me but when you live in the tropics it is the only way to keep everything clean and they stack under tables.  After all this is sorted the serious fun can commence!

I too have loads of plastic boxes and cardboard boxes so you are not alone. That is a cute collection of owls on your tree and they look most at home. You are starting the FUN theme off well.

I too have way too many containers! I have been purging for 2 yrs and while I have cut my stash, there still seems to be too much!

That's a lovely mini to make in a class. it looks great. I think your owl collection is multiplying in the dark!! Good luck with the sorting!!

We all have boxes or containers to keep our stuff in. Don't know if you use them, but I always keep those little gel packs you get in a new bag or shoes - they're great for down here to keep the damp salt air out of your things, especially needles, pins etc. I also have them in my plastic containers with material. Not as hot here a in the tropics but we do get a lot of humid days and nights. Maybe Peter can source them for you as they would be good to use up there.

Oh golly, what a lot to get through! I hate it when I get to that Part of a tidy up job! Never mind you are on the down hill slope now! I always find a good tidy up is quite motivating, I look forward to seeing lots of creativity pouring forth.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

  Its that time of year again when Amy over at Amy's Creative Side  is organising an online quilt festival so I thought I would add my quilt "Concerto for Mixed Peel" to the all the fun.     "Concerto for Mixed Peel" by Frances Leate This quilt is approximately 78" square and has been created using the Orange Peel block in three different sizes.  The blocks were hand appliqued using the fusible method with blanket stitch.  I chose this method of applique as I needed a very portable project at the time and this proved to be just the thing.  I  quilted "Concerto for Mixed Peel" on my Bernina 440 machine in a simple style and then added the scalloped edging.  It was commissioned by Australian Homespun magazine and the brief was for a quilt using the orange peel block, thirties style fabrics and to be bright and fresh in colour.  The project was published in Homespun No. 105 Vol 13 No 2.     Till next t...

Quilt Patterns on Cosy Project
