The Red and White quilt exhibition is currently on in New York and to show I am there in spirit if not in person I have started a new red and white project - just a fun little quilt.  The big exhibition in New York coordinated by the American Folk Art Museum is showing 651 red and white quilts belonging to Joanna S Rose and the exhibition is called "Infinite Variety: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts". During the last week there has been a break in our weather and we have actually had a few fine afternoons and I have enjoyed some lovely long walks on the Esplanade.  Peaking through the clouds there was part of a rainbow visible in the photo below and I hope this is a good omen and that we will enjoy better weather than we have been experiencing for quite a long time now. Some weeks just seem to disappear in a haze and I have been sitting here thinking about what I actually achieved last week while the wet season just droned on.  Surprisingly, the rain seemed to stop by royal decree on Saturday and the sun shone on Prince William who paid a quick visit to the cyclone affected areas of the Far North before flying on the South East of the State. Well I finished Block 12 - "Louisiana" of the Civil War Quilt - "Louisiana" - Block 12 CWQ and now I have twelve finished blocks. CWQ Quilt - Blocks 1 - 12 I also finished the machine quilting on a project for a future publication and that has now been parcelled up and sent South - something else to cross off the "To Do" list.   I thought I would also include in this post a few more of Kathy's mug mats - these really are addictive. I have now stitched the latest Barbara Brackman's Civil War Quilt blocks so this is one project I am up todate with and I am just loving these Reproduction fabrics. "Lincoln's Platform" - Block 10 CWQ "London Square" - Block 11 CWQ Some of the girls in the Sunday Stitching Group are also enjoying this project so I thought I would show you some of their blocks.  Here are Jenny's Blocks 5-9 and Kathy is doing two of each block and I love seeing the different colourways. My quilt "Travelling North" has been featured as a project in the current edition of Australian Patchwork & Quilting Vol 20 No 2.  This quilt was designed around the traditional "Birds in the Air" block and gave me a lot of enjoyment to hand piece.  I have been waiting for over a week to get my hands on a copy of the magazine as deliveries are very slow getting to the Far North at the moment as the "Big Wet" continues. "Birds in the Air" - Block 9 CWQ and here are all my first 9 blocks of this Civil War Quilt project - Blocks 1-9 CWQ I am pleased the way these blocks are coming together and tomorrow I should get an opportunity to stitch together Block 10 so I can keep up to date. To celebrate the "Red and White" Quilt Exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum in New York, Taryn of Repro Quilt Lover  is hosting a virtual "Red and White" quilt show on her bog through links to other blogs showing red and white quilts.  This is my quilt "Seeing Red" that I made using the kaleidoscope block and which was published in Australian Patchwork & Quilting Vol 16 No 9.  I really enjoyed designing and making this quilt and absolutely love red and white quilts. I haven't had much opportunity to spend time on the computer for the last week or so but I thought I would share with you the Mug Mats made by some of the members of the Sunday Stitchers.  We decided to have a Mug Mat Swap and here is the selection of Mug Mats brought along by the members who braved Cairn's "Big Wet" to stitch with us today at Cairns Craft Centre. Kathy really got into the spirit of things and made lots and lots of these cute little quilts which she found used a considerable quanity of bits from the scrap basket and also gave her an opportunity to try some new techniques.  Here are just a few of the ones she had to show us today.
