Block 6 CWQ and a "Giveaway"

With all the distraction of the cyclone last week I didn't get the opportunity to celebrate my blog passing the milestone of  "100 Posts" and to organise a giveaway.  This journey into the world of blogging has been an amazing experience for me and I really appreciate all the new friends I have made both near and far.  Thank you for all the comments and emails that have resulted from these posts and I will look forward to receiving lots more.

I have been pondering the question of what to offer as the giveaway and the answer came to me when I was making the latest block "Richmond" in Barbara Brackman's Civil War Quilt project.  I am having way too much fun making these blocks and look forward to Sunday when the new block appears on my computer.


"Richmond" - Block 6 CWQ
For the "giveaway" I have decided to offer a selection of fat quarters from the Reproduction fabrics that I am working with in this quilt project.  To enter the "Giveaway" all you have to do is leave a comment or email me (if you are having difficulty with comments) by midnight Wednesday, 16th February and you will go in the draw to win these fat quarters shown in the photo below.

I saw your block on the Flickr page and came over to tell you how much I liked it and found your give away. I really like the red that you used ( I have it's relation in brown) and will hopefully find some on our shopping trip this Saturday.
Do I see my favourite Nancy Gere fabric in that photo?

Thankfully you both stayed safe during the cyclone. I was sewing that evening and listening to the ABC as people were calling in and sharing their experiences. I could hear the winds and the crashing and banging in the background while I was safe in Melbourne.

What a generous giveaway! I'm loving the Civil War quilt-along too but am a little nervous about the Richmond block as some people have said they had a bit of trouble with it. Yours looks lovely, any hints?

Well its been a while but I have been inspired to post after seeing my quilt "In a Pretty Pickle" on the cover of the latest "Homespun" magazine https://www.facebook.com/frances.leate with the full project instructions featured inside with a brief profile about me.  This quilt was machine pieced and quilted on my Bernina domestic machine. Blogger's Quilt Festival

  Its that time of year again when Amy over at Amy's Creative Side  is organising an online quilt festival so I thought I would add my quilt "Concerto for Mixed Peel" to the all the fun.     "Concerto for Mixed Peel" by Frances Leate This quilt is approximately 78" square and has been created using the Orange Peel block in three different sizes.  The blocks were hand appliqued using the fusible method with blanket stitch.  I chose this method of applique as I needed a very portable project at the time and this proved to be just the thing.  I  quilted "Concerto for Mixed Peel" on my Bernina 440 machine in a simple style and then added the scalloped edging.  It was commissioned by Australian Homespun magazine and the brief was for a quilt using the orange peel block, thirties style fabrics and to be bright and fresh in colour.  The project was published in Homespun No. 105 Vol 13 No 2.     Till next t...

Civil War Blocks

I have finally caught up with my blocks for the Civil War Quilt and here are blocks 37 to 45.  These blocks have been pieced by hand and machine and there is also some needleturn applique. Here is a quick photo of all the blocks lined up together on my small design wall.  With only 8 blocks to go it is time to start thinking about how to set them all and Barbara Brackman has some great ideas over at Civil War Quilts  .  At the moment I am think of straight sashing with cornerstones but I have been known to change my mind (at least once or twice).  I have really enjoyed being part of this stitchalong project.
