Whats New in the Studio

It has been stressful for quite a while as we try to sort out a few things in our house so to cheer myself up I commenced a new project.  Cairns Craft Centre has just had a large shipment of lots of new paper piecing shapes and I decided to try out the Apple Cores using lots of black and white fabrics from my stash.  I have to say that this project is coming together much faster than the Pies & Tarts using an applique stitch and it is proving to be lots of fun.

Christine over at Once upon a Quilt... has a new blog where she is selling off lots of bits and pieces and I fell in love with these thimbles and just had to have them for my collection.  I might add they were speedily dispatched and beautifully wrapped so they all arrived safe and sound.

I have also been adding the odd little owl to the ever growing collection and they now have a new home on a shelf between the button jars and lots of fabric.

The other new addition is to the library and this time we thought we would try out an E-Book which has only just arrived and I am looking forward to reading it tonight.

Far North Queensland , would be a good place to be on Grand Final Day, Are you hand piecing the apple cores ? Black and White is always a winner , some colours just go together. Drolling over you thimble collection.

I see you collect owls too! I have one similar to the one in the top right hand corner of your photo! Is it a mug? Your black and white apple cores are great, even if they are in Collingwood colours! Go Cats! (Geelong- my team won the premiership!)

I tend to like more color, but I love how this apple core looks. You're paper piecing this? I don't see how you can join the curves. Wish my LQS carried paper piecing shapes.
Congrats on scoring the thimbles. Love the quilt in the background.

Oh Frances, I love your B&W apple cores, how gorgeous. And aren't those thimbles and owls just beautiful. I only have a few thimbles, but also confess to having a soft spot for owls. Thanks for showing us the apple core template idea. I'm away from lots of this work at the moment, headspace in and around mixed media and embroidery.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

  Its that time of year again when Amy over at Amy's Creative Side  is organising an online quilt festival so I thought I would add my quilt "Concerto for Mixed Peel" to the all the fun.     "Concerto for Mixed Peel" by Frances Leate This quilt is approximately 78" square and has been created using the Orange Peel block in three different sizes.  The blocks were hand appliqued using the fusible method with blanket stitch.  I chose this method of applique as I needed a very portable project at the time and this proved to be just the thing.  I  quilted "Concerto for Mixed Peel" on my Bernina 440 machine in a simple style and then added the scalloped edging.  It was commissioned by Australian Homespun magazine and the brief was for a quilt using the orange peel block, thirties style fabrics and to be bright and fresh in colour.  The project was published in Homespun No. 105 Vol 13 No 2.     Till next t...

Quilt Patterns on Cosy Project
